Carnival
Carnival is not strictly a public holiday because it falls over a weekend between mid-February and the end of February.
During thsi weekend Valletta and some other places around Malta are awash with bright coloured floats and people dressed in coulourful and elaborate costumes. There are competitions for the floats and costumes and dances.
In the town of Nadur in Gozo, a people's Carnival is organised. People of all ages (mostly grown-up) can dress up in any costume and go to the town square to mingle and have fun with the other revellers.
This period is the mid-term break for schools, therefore children don't have school on Monday and Tuesday after the Carnival Weekend.
